(AsiaGameHub) – After an investigation into violations of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has ordered Australian internet service providers to block six additional illegal online gambling sites.
Play Jonny, ACO96, TCL99, Waboom77, Wonaco, and WooSpin are now among the many sites that have been blocked from access.
The regulator has noted that website blocking will remain one of ACMA’s primary enforcement methods to fight illegal offshore gambling operations targeting Australian consumers. Since ACMA issued its first blocking order in November 2019, a total of 1,708 illegal gambling and affiliate websites have been blocked across Australia.
Furthermore, the authority reports that more than 230 unlicensed gambling operators have ceased operations in the Australian market since enhanced enforcement measures were implemented in 2017.
Australians using unlicensed operators face risks due to the absence of consumer safeguards—including challenges recovering their funds or obtaining compensation for being unable to access player protection. As such, consumers are advised to verify if a betting operator is licensed to operate in Australia via ACMA’s register of licensed providers.
Information about online gambling, consumer protection, and filing complaints is available through ACMA’s official channels.
